世紀之書（上）

王錫璋　國家圖書館參考組代主任

　　紐約公共圖書館為慶祝其成立100週年，特於1995年5月20日至1996年7月13日舉辦一項「世紀之書」（Books of the Century）的展覽，共挑選並展出對本世紀具有影響力的159本經典書籍。這159本書單，是由紐約公共圖書館資深且具有學術權威的書目專家、主題專家等先初選、推薦出1100種圖書，再從中複選出來的，並分為11大類展出。而後主編研究組主任黛芳朵芙（Elizabeth Diefendorf）根據各方意見，酌增部份圖書，並增加「兒童及青年讀物」（Favorites of Childhood and Youth）這一類，總計本書目共分12類，收書175種。

　　出版年後有「＊」記號者，表示筆者查到有中譯本者，雖不一定完整，但仍可供參考。
